I shot this with a still photography camera! The footage with a digital background (Ray, Kirk and Mark) was shot with a Panasonic HVX200, but the outdoor footage was all shot with the 5D. Man, I’m glad I saved all my wedding photography lenses! Special thanks to my good friend Mark Ketcham for use of the 5D!

Tech stuff: The Canon 5D Mark 2 shoots HD H264, 30 fps video. I converted the video to 29.97 fps Pro Res 422 in Compressor, and was able to edit as normal in Final Cut Pro.

The first episode of The Way of the Master: Season Four, Mission Europe is finally out. It is now on DVD and will air later this year on many different Christian TV stations. My role on this program is that of producer, director, co-writer, editor and I do a little camera work as well. I’ve not had this much fun since my days of making BMX videos. One episode down, twelve more to go!

Kirk and Ray are alot of fun to work with, constantly joking on set, it’s always a good time.

Working with Living Waters is so much fun. I took some time off the Way of the Master TV show to create this promo for their evangelism training weekend. If you’re a Christian looking for a sweet vacation that will be a life changing experience, this is it. I’ve been through the Academy myself, and I can’t say enough about it - that’s why I had to make a video about it : )

Here’s a re-edit of a video I made a few years back. We kept the music and narration, but added new footage. Yes, that’s me on the bike. Like I always say, when you’re preaching the gospel in Africa, why not throw in a few BMX stunts?

Whooooeeeee! This is why I do what I do!!! Sorry, minor unconfined ‘jump for joy’ moment.

Twelve years ago I visited Uganda as part of a team that was trying to find a place to start a medical clinic in the African bush. Last month I returned to that same remote area and visited the clinic that now stands as the only thing keeping thousands of people from dying in this hostile environment. I’m honored to count Dr. Emuku as a friend, he’s the real deal. Man, I really could write pages and pages about Dr. Emuku & the clinic, but since I’m on a video edit deadline, I won’t (aren’t you sad?).

This video was shot with the amazing Vixia HV40 by Canon, a small camcorder in the $800 range. Of course, it’s tricked out with a $1000 wireless mic and some other things, but the image is just so sweet for a “consumer” camera. I loved taking that little camera into the bush, less weight means more shooting all day long, and when you’re a one man crew, that means alot. Can’t wait to go back!

Here’s a video I re-edited on my way to Uganda a couple weeks ago. The flight from LA to Dubai is 13 hours, followed by a 4 hour flight to Uganda. I was stoked to find out the plane had AC power on every seat! It was laptop heaven.

Before my departure, my client had requested some changes that I just did not have time to make. I really didn’t want to make them wait two weeks for my return (it’s hard to edit a video with no electrical outlets in a tent in the African bush), so being able to edit on the plane was the best. After finishing the video I landed in Dubai, uploaded it to Vimeo and sent it to the client. It’s mind-blowing how far video has come. When I began editing in 1986, good editing equipment could fill a room. To have an entire system on a laptop is just plain cool.

Here’s my first attempt at making text come alive in After Effects. Safe Harbor holds a huge place in my heart, I was on staff with them for 8 years, running all over Africa, experiencing things that changed my life forever. I’ll be returning to Africa to shoot more video soon, and I can’t wait!
